Most people think of Washington DC as simply the center of our nation’s government, but for those of us who live and work here, we know that there is so much more to our city, the one we affectionately call ‘The District’. Over the years, height-restricted building policies have helped maintain a friendly, mid-size city-vibe. And when you look out a window in DC, no matter the neighborhood, you might just see all the way to Virginia or even Maryland! Yes, our low-building heights make for amazing views, and when George Washington decided to make our diamond-shaped district, he needed land from our very close neighbors, Virginia and Maryland. Today, our growing metropolis of urban neighborhoods continues that expansion, beyond the official city borders of the District. Many who work and play in the District now call close-by Virginia and Maryland home. Sometimes we refer to our greater area as the ‘D-M-V’. No matter which local community you choose to live in, each is strongly individual but proudly interconnected to Washington life and waiting to welcome you!
